My mom and I made some hypertufa pots a month or so back. We had a ton of fun making them together in her garage, decked out with face masks and chemical gloves I had a glimpse of us on Breaking Bad together. Alas, we stuck to the task of hypertufa making.

Once I proposed the idea to my mother she ran like crazy with it so I merely needed to show up to the event. My parents are the type that like to have stuff on hand to make or do pretty much anything under the sun. (Imagine what an awesome childhood that made for me!) Surprisingly, she didn’t have the perlite, portland cement and peat moss on hand but was eager to have it at the ready. While I was looking for scissors to open up the bag of perlite, I found a pair of, and I’m not exaggerating, 14″ scissors. When I asked what in the world possessed them to need such a ridiculous long pair of shears, my mother matter-of-factly stated, for wallpapering. Of course! The last time she did that was 20 years ago but okay, I’m all for division of labor.

We did the whole bit in a bin in a wheelbarrow which made it easier to mix (we’re short) and to move around since the whole mess is pretty heavy. There is lots of information and videos online (like here) but we ended up going with a one to one to one ratio.

Here are a few of the pots we made lounging about in my mother’s lawn. I know it’s not quite a show stopper yet, but just you wait. I’ll show completed photos after they have set longer. My mother claims she read they need to cure for a few months before rinsing them and potting them so I’m waiting patiently for the right time. She’ll let us know.

I found this half-written post which originally was talking about fall being in the air, but really this is all about our cats. Who am I kidding… we’re crazy cat people. I am actually to blame for making her into a crazy cat person but I think we’re equal now.

After I catch up on wedding topper orders, we’re heading to the Grand Canyon and Santa Fe on a road trip. Anything you feel like we must see?

I don’t know if I ever posted this but I made this display over the summer. Here it is at Chatty Crafty, pulling it back out of the attic for Renegade. I actually left my miter saw at my parent’s from a few moves/years back and so I just rented one from Home Depot. I also had them cut the plywood back to size which they didn’t charge me for actually. I think this was the first project I can recall where all my measurements were actually right in the plans. I finally remembered to account for the 1/8″ saw blade all around–at the beginning. Most importantly, I even measured it correctly to fit like a glove in the car. One day, I might add legs or bulk bins to the bottom. Maybe…

In our guest room, this is a sleeping peep that I made. A couple of days ago, I made my 500th wedding topper. Lately, I have been missing making these Little Small Clothespin People. I made about 550 of them, see them all here.

When Charlie came home with us, Oscar came, too. He hasn’t had a proper introduction yet but together they are trouble and the fox. They are sweet then a big crazy mess until they fall flat worn out again. We are over the moon with them. I know, cat people, we’re all crazy.
