A Steno Pad for My Thoughts

While I don’t normally get super into Valentine’s Day we are cooking for each other this year and I have dessert so I wanted to make something special for the top of the cupcakes.

I bought the wooden heart shapes here and then drilled a hole in the bottom for some tiny craft sticks. I painted the hearts pink with some acrylic paint and then glued on the front some pink polka dot fabric that I cut out in a heart shape.

To seal it, I used some mod podge and I am all set. I’ll be making us king sized cupcakes this year so we’ll see how it goes.

I love the idea of making reusable wooden cupcake picks rather than using those crappy tacky (sometimes wonderfully gross) cupcake picks you can buy.

What a fabulous idea. Those are so darling. I have a great recipe for King Cupcakes here:

But basically you can use any cupcake recipe and bake longer. I used those ugly picks for Easter last year so I really like the idea of the cute picks!

Oh you’re right, the ones you buy can be so incredibly tacky. Your little hearts are very cute and are going to make your cupcakes look all the more appealing!

Could you tell us what kind of a drill you use, and maybe give a little review? I’ve been hankering after a decent craft drill for a while, to do the important but difficult tasks — like putting small holes in the bottom of wooden hearts, or through acorns, and things like that. Also, do you use a vise or something to hold the tiny item so you don’t do damage to a digit?

too fun! i’ve been trying to find a vintage-inspired theme for my son’s bday this year. star cupcake toppers with vintage fabric it is. what a snazzy treat. rock on, sarah. and i love the idea of getting the alphabet to do “happy bday” across a big cake of some sort. nice reusable plans. my fav.
