Candy Buttons

February 3rd, 2009

One day, not so long ago, Hannah had posted about some striped cupcake liners. Luckily, I thought, I had seen some before and already owned some so I just thought I’d make an innocent click on over the Bake It Pretty online shop and just have a quick look around. And, guess what I saw? Candy buttons! Okay, I had not seen these before and my niece is having a big birthday seven sleepover slumber party this weekend and I’m bringing candy. These kill.

The mold is here and I used the candy melt variety pack here and picked up a bag of white, too. I did pick up some artifiicial flavoring just for kicks. I’m not sure I love it for me, but the kids will probably dig on it. And she even made the cute buttons labels downloadable as a pdf on her blog so you can just print and use them, too! So sweet! The colors of the candy melt are so spot on for the vintage buttons. I think they are supremely awesome. I had to pick up a few more candy making supplies so we’ll see if I find time to fit them in before Friday. Otherwise, these are so great I’m not stressing it.

I love these and would love to replicate them! As always, thank you for your inspiration!

Could you share what size bags you used? They seem to hold the perfect amount of candies.

Hi Helen, you’re so welcome! I used bags that measure 3 x 4 1/8″ which I have from buying online at clearbags.com. The item number is B3X4NF. Good luck!!

So these are rad. I am going to get that mold right now. My question: how many times did you have to refill the mold to get enough candy buttons for your bags? I was thinking about doing these for valentines for my kid’s class, but then also thinking maybe I am cuckoo. For 21 kids in a class that might be lots and lots and lots of refills, yes? (Please say no!)

    Looks so good!
    Do they have a hole?
I was thinking of knitting them to a gift wrapping.

Adrienne…okay, I would say for each bag I used candies from about 1/2 the mold. If you did this for a larger group of folks, don’t buy the premixed color bag of candy melts since in the assortment sometimes didn’t even quite fill up the mold for each color. To fill up the tray, I think I figured it would take about 22 melts. So for 21 kids, I would say you would need to do it about 11 times. Certainly possible!

And Al, there are no holes in the mold. I suppose you could poke one through but I can’t imagine they would hold up to knitting on a package.

But that reminds me of this cute knit marzipan technique that looks like knitting, how about adding a button to that? Super cute!

Thanks Sarah! Sounds doable. The mold is on its way to my house and I’m so excited. Bake it Pretty should give you a commission!
