Map of my throw pillow.
I sent out a mass email this morning to my mailing list and made mention I haven’t been doing a lot of sewing which is true. Since the truth of the matter is I broke my mother’s Singer I had been using, a lovely metal strong machine that had one too many needles clogging up and breaking its gears. Then I switched over to my grandmothers Singer which is a lovely Singer metal strong machine but a little….persnickety. After sewing on my mother + sister’s lovely-more-money-than-I’ll-ever-spend Bernina’s I turned in to a bit of a hotty-totty about my thread tension.
Though I haven’t abandoned the ole Singer all together, I have made this which I love. And I do have the Bernina’s right here in my workspace but somehow knowing they aren’t mine is like a mind gap I’m having trouble crossing. It just seems like such a hassle to use them. And then if I break them, forget about it. But I couldn’t resist this fabric for long, which you should all recall I love + adore. And, oh yes, there are still sections of it I haven’t used so you can bet I’ll be using up every corner of it in projects to come.

I embroidered the words on to the tree and made a word map off the word “throw pillow” which was most delightful.

And then I decided to scrap the ruffles, shocking, and go with a plainer presentation since it took me a few weeks of gymnastics + dance classes to get the words done. I couldn’t have anything stealing it’s thunder. And the giant faux suede like ric-rac is lovely because it floats up slightly which is most fun.

The design of this pillow came from this one from Land of Nod. I’ve always adored it and still do. Though I nixed the ric-rac around the edges. It seemed a bit to flouncy and this pillow is much larger so the scale of the ric-rac is off and I felt would seem too tiny to use around. Though it does look nice on the other. And just so you know, appliqued animals are on the brain big time so as soon as I get my new sewing machine (just a couple more weeks!!) they will be on the top of my list. Appliqued animal art pieces, 4-A Critter Cadets, ha! Careful, that name may actually stick.
