Icing on the cake.
I wanted to title this post, ICE ice baby, but “icing on the cake” seemed cheesy enough. So, I headed out on Friday to head to Atlanta for the Indie Craft Experience show but I went by way of Savannah (total opposite direction) to pick up some peeps. And as I pulled in to pick up most important peep no. 1 so we could head out to her birthday dinner, I ran into her apartment to help with the things and then we ran back to the car to head out to dinner before heading to Atlanta, and we’re rushing a bit, excited and then the car chugged. And then groaned. And then shut up completely. And then, after a few minutes, it just faintly let out one revolution of a groan. The darn battery died. Presumably from all the time I had my doors and trunk open as I expertly packed my car with more crap than can fit in a sausage casing, all the while still trying to allow for two passengers and myself the ability to bear a 3.5 hour drive in our seats. And I had done it! But it cost me.
Now, as luck would have it, my mother had just given me a pair of jumper cables for Christmas (thanks Mom!) and after reading the directions 50 times, we went for it. Nothing happened all went well, it started like a charm. Disconnected it from the host and drove around the block to the car repair place. (Yup, most important peep no. 1 lives around the block from a shop. Perfect!) After dropping it off with all my crap stuffed in every nook and cranny of the beast, we went to eat. And apparantly, during this time Paypal also went down and a transformer blew up in the city of Savannah so that made for a declinced debit card, no working computers at the shop and other fishiness. After dinner, we passed by two other stranded cars being jumped, which was too bizarre, so I’m convinced the blown transformer sent out an electrical current that preyed on weak batteries. But eventually we were on our way.
And ICE was an incredibly organized show in a very good spot, with lots of traffic even for a day that sputtered rain from the sky. After all that, here is the new and improved craft show booth:

And with our raincoat on…

Now, why was there such a hassle? I figure I had to give back for the most awesome gift ever! Two years ago, my mother gave me her original wedding ring, that I subsequently lost back in February. But after packing up my car and having the doors open for forever and a day and then vacuuming it out earlier than morning, all my fooling around drained the battery BUT I found my mother’s ring!! I had for some insane reason placed it in the sidewell on the driver’s side door. I happened to be in a cleaning mania mood and took all the old napkins, cds and non-working pens out so I could retain only the necessity when I felt something that I thought was a ring but figured it was just a plastic cheap thing. And lo and behold!! I found it. And now it’s safe in a jar while I try to decide if I can be trusted to ever wear it again.
Up next, Renegade Brooklyn! Not this weekend but the next!!

What good fortune to find the ring! I once placed my own rings in a cupholder in my car, and they disappeared into a hard-to-reach spot. I was panicked ’till we were able to retrieve them. By the way, I love your smiley totes! Do you have a good online source for purchasing blank tote bags?

That is so much better than finding a $20 in a jacket pocket!
Those are moments that make a heart sing.
How was the craft fair?
