A Steno Pad for My Thoughts

Last week, Amy posted about her freezer paper stencils and her suggestion on the ink to use. This was a most brilliant post and has me all giddy. My ink came in and yesterday in between easter egg hunts and brunches + dinner I managed to ink up three items. And I fear there won’t be any stopping anytime soon.

I completely misunderstood something and added a wee bit of water to the ink which just made it run under the stencil. Notice the left whale seems to have sprung a leak. I also decided not to heat set prior to washing because the fabric looked so old and worn I thought the design might look better that way too. Jury is out but I still dig it. Good news is even without heat setting, this ink is pretty stuck.

Second item made was something from my Early American Wall Stencils in Color book which I made onto a sweatshirt and then cut out and sewed onto this shirt (which is really an amalgamation of two shirts.) This one I decided to put on with a sponge to get that “early american” (ha) look and jury is still out on this again. I sewed down one of the tassels and left the other free–we’ll see how well that holds up.

I seriously love this fashion trend you and Amy are starting, freezer paper and bonnets. I’m chomping to try some freezer paper transferring.

good fabric paint is great - any i’ve used is crazily permanent! it’s great. i’ve never tried the freezer paper (really want to!) but i do alot of fabric stamping. though i have found that you really do need to use fabric paint vs. regular acrylics. acrylic is not as permanent alone - though i think if you add a fabric medium you’ll be in good shape.
i love your whales. so cute!
