The Best of… File it Away Cookbook
The following is a post from The Small Object blog originally hosted over on Blogger that has since been deleted. This post was originally published in April 2005.
“An organizational post for you all. What to do with with all those recipes I clip from magazines…the file-it-a-way cookbook system! All right I made it sound ridiculously fancy, but it’s just a big chunky journal that I picked up from Barnes & Noble or Urban Outfitters (don’t recall which one) for $5 when it was on sale. But the paper was a beautiful thick handmade paper so I wasn’t sure what do with it.
I ended up cutting out most of the pages (to use for drawings later) and the spaces provided “file folders” for the recipes I cut out. The recipes are all glued onto 4″ x 9″ pieces of card stock. And then filed into appetizers, soups, salads + dressings, etc… The “file folders” are labeled using cut down index divider tabs.
On the cover, a most favorite photograph of flour on my old blue countertop. Looked like a galaxy to me, love it, love it. I keep a rubber band around it to keep it all snug as a bug in a rug. We made a chocolate cake today from a recipe I’ve not used before for my mum’s bday, I’ll let you know how it tastes tomorrow. YUM!! While I’m not normally an icing kinda gal, I figure anything that takes 4 cups of whipping cream, 24 ozs of chocolate + light corn syrup cannot possible taste bad, can it??!”
